Personality: Gouzen is a very hateful person. He lacks the need of friendship, and looks down upon anyone who wants friends. Friends, to him, are a liability. Gouzen doesn't talk much, though when he does it is usually to argue with or insult the person he is addressing. He has a quick wit and a bad temper, which usually get him into a lot of trouble. Gouzen is very arrogant, and thinks that everyone is beneath him. Gouzen is too proud to ask for help, and prefers doing things alone. Even if the task should be done with more than one person. He is very violent, and tends to start fights over anything he can. Usually the one to throw the first punch, he won't stop until he is the one who throws the last. He won't stop fighting unless he is killed, and some say that due to his stubbornness he might keep fighting even after death. Gouzen treats women with more respect than men. He believes that it is wrong for a man to hit a woman, unless she is putting his very life at risk. Anything goes if one is a life or death situation.

History/Background: Gouzen grew up in district 79, and it was as tough as it got for a kid. He had no family, and no friends. Everywhere he turned he was jumped and attacked, and he developed a certain hatred for humanity this way. He grew to learn to defend himself, though physically he never grew past the age of 15. After several decades in district 79, Gouzen entered the academy. He excelled at every class except for kidou. Having no intention to use kidou in battle, he didn't put any effort into the class. After several years he graduated and moved into the 12th division. There he made his home and kept to himself. Hundreds of years later he was transferred due to the fact that he was too lazy to actually do any research. He didn't mind, however, since the squad he worked for made no difference to him. He soon became acquainted with the squad 8th barracks. There he would learn to feel at ease. He took mission upon mission and became stronger and stronger. After hundreds of years serving the squad, he became one of the more veteran shinigami. However, due to lack of motivation, he never grew in rank. He never did anything to catch his captain's eye and he liked it that way.
