Division: Formerly 5th.

Personality: While coming off as uncaring mostly, He is extremely empathetic of others feelings and willing to stick out a limb for them. He is also armed with a good sense of humor, depending on the situation. He is usually quiet around people who are unfamiliar and keeps to himself mostly. In battle, along with keeping a level head, he also sticks with Hakuda and Hoho, as his bond with his own Zanpakuto is rather fragile. All in all, Nio is a rather lonely person.

History/Background: His life on earth was short, dying right after his birth. A freak accident at the hospital caused the entire left wing to go up in flames, along with his family. Nio's spirit was shortly sent to Rukongai afterward, where he was found and raised by an old couple in West Rukongai, district 1. By the age of 12, his reiatsu was increasing slowly, getting closer and closer to the point where it could practically reap the life from the two; but Nio noticed his parents decline in health one day, and upon realizing himself as the cause, he left in dismay, reiatsu lingering around him. A shinigami from the 5th Division found him, sensed the Reiryoku in him, and helped him enroll into the Academy, where he took the place of the average student from lack of motive.

It wasn't till he managed to graduate and was accepted as the 5th division's 1st seat that he found out the name of The 5th divison captain. Years flew by after that, as he got used to his role as a Shinigami, a rather dull and meager role it was, Konso'ing and saving spirits, killing Hollows, basically repeating itself over and over again. A break from this happened one day after his 56th year as a Shinigami, when 6 Captains and 5 Lieutenants vanished in a single night, apparently sentenced criminals. Nio, interested by this, sought to inquire the answers to why, but he was mostly left at dead-ends as it was left top-secret; but he carried on without regard for anything else and found the truth from overhearing a meeting between Aizen, Gin, and Tousen. Aghast, he started to run and inform the Commander-General of this, but it was hard to do so with a blade poking through his lung.

In a series of events that were blurry due to the internal bleeding, he found himself in front of the Central 46, deemed guilty for being a spy for Kisuke Urahara, and sentenced for exile. After a painful drop from a Senkaimon formed in mid air, he crawled into a abandoned building in some human town, and resided there for the next few cenutries, still keeping up his Shinigami duties while avoiding Soul Society.
