Personality: Cleft is a rough exterior person who is overly nice to many people. But this has never stopped him from doing his duty to mercilessly kill anything, (or anyone) he is asked to.

History/Background: While he was alive Cleft had a different name that he can no longer remember and this haunts him. Once he arrived in the soul society he looked up at seirtei and said “I will get there one day, I swear it on my afterlife”. After many years of work he was finally accepted into the soul reaper academy where he became a stand out amongst his class mates. The only problem he faced was the other reapers in training looking down on him for being from the rukongai district. Cleft often was in fights but always simply knocked his opponents out cold, without causing a single injury to them with the exception of their pride. When he finished his time at the academy he was selected to be in the eighth division as the fourth seat. The current captain saw the promise in Cleft so he made it possible for him to try to be the lieutenant. Cleft had a hard fight that lasted for two days, but in the end he failed. The captain was still determined to let Cleft show his full power so he took him directly under his wing and gave him special training. When he was able to challenge for the lieutenant once again he was a completely different person and the lieutenant could see that right away as Cleft made quick work of him finishing the fight in a matter of seconds, but Cleft still did not kill his opponent. Instead he looked down at him with the cold of a thousand blizzards in his eyes. Out of fear the lieutenant asked “what kind of training did the captain give you, You’ve become a monster”. Cleft simply looked at him and said in a very mono tone voice “Nothing that special, just the ability to kill all emotions in me and embrace my full power without anything holding me back”. He then proceeded to slice his opponent with the blade of his zanpaktou but the captain appeared and stopped his strike with his own blade “The fight is yours, don’t disgrace yourself by shedding unnecessary blood”. Cleft looked at the captain and said “Just remember that you made me like this, so don’t think foul of me when I one day take your seat”. The captain had a look of shock and deep fear on his face as his new lieutenant walked away slowly. Five years went by and the captain had forgotten the words that cleft had uttered to him that fateful day, But Cleft had not. One day when returning from an assignment Cleft looked at the captain and said the three magic words. “I challenge you”. The captain stopped in the middle of the road they were walking on and looked at Cleft as though he had just been stabbed in the heart with a thousand knives. “Do you accept the fight or will you simply surrender your seat ?” asked Cleft. “Against my better judgment I accept, draw your zanpaktou old friend.” said the captain in a voice weighed down by sadness. Cleft drew his sword and held it out for the captain to cross blades with him as it was a tradition between them before a fight. The captain crossed Cleft’s blade and the fight began with the captain releasing his sword into shikai state. Cleft stood with his sealed zanpaktou looking disgusted. “You really think that you can win with that pitiful weapon ?” asked cleft. “I do not want to kill you Cleft, besides my shikai is more then enough to finish off you without serious damage.” The captain then appeared behind cleft, sword raised. Then coughed up blood. “What….happened ?” asked the captain. “I told you that you could not win without bankai, it seems I was right which is why my blade is now completely through your chest.” The captain looked down and sure enough the sealed form of his lieutenant’s zanpaktou was buried in the depths of his heart. Then the captain uttered his final words before passing into oblivion, “You are now The captain of our squad, but I wish you great sadness and grief in the years to come as you remember the way you destroyed your greatest friend.” “What do you mean friend ? Old man you were nothing but a final test for me to find my limits.” “Then I truly failed in this life haven’t I….”The former captain faded away, leaving Cleft alone with his corpse. “To bad”, said Cleft, “I could have used him in my squad, but I guess that ship has sailed.” Cleft took the captain’s jacket off his former superior and placed it on himself, Then he headed back to squad headquarters to announce his new position. Before he left the street though he began crying and whispered “What have I done…..”

Personality:

Cleft is a rough exterior person who is overly nice to many people. But this has never stopped him from doing his duty to mercilessly kill anything, (or anyone) he is asked to. Cleft has been known to be very outgoing and adventurous, taking any mission thrown at him. He is not the most popular soul reaper in the Soul Society, mainly because he refuses any form of friendship ever since his first captain many years ago. Cleft is a very distant person from other actual people, but very friendly with nature and the animals and such with it. Basically, Cleft is just the type of guy who would love to just be left alone while napping near a stream out in the woods.

“The air is heavy with evil here”, thought Cleft. “Perhaps I bit off more then I can chew on this assignment”. Cleft had just come to a section of the human world that he was not familiar with. “Let’s see I think they said this place is called, the Sahara, didn’t think it was just some huge desert, but that’s what I get for not asking any questions.” Cleft had come here alone upon his request and was now in search of some gigantic hollow that had appeared and was terrorizing the local villages, driving them into a state of fear so bad that they were starving because they would not exit their homes together supplies and food. “Just great and I bet it’s a burrowing one to. Which would explain why I haven’t detected it yet.” thought Cleft. Cleft began to cross the desert in order to find this demon as the ground began quaking violently as though the lord of the under world himself was about to rise. “Well at least I found it..” though Cleft. In front of him was a snake like hollow who’s visible length was well over one hundred yards, the rest was still under the desert sands. “Welcome little on, I thought I had picked up the tasty scent of a soul reaper”, said the hollow, ”Well at least now I have a decent meal for tonight.” Cleft just looked on at the hollow with an emotionless face and proceeded to say ,“You think so. Well first you have to kill me, don’t count your chickens before they hatch worthy adversary.” “Hmm you are very polite aren’t you, but also overconfident.” The hollow began to strike while yelling, “How can something so small and pathetic ever hope to defeat a grand hollow like myself ?!?” In an instant contact was made, with the hollow slamming into the blade of Cleft’s zanpaktou. “I see so someone like me pales in comparison to you? Well you know what they say, The nail that sticks up gets hammered down.” Cleft then pulled his weapon free from the beast’s face and prepared himself for the battle that was to come. “You soul reapers are quite an annoyance with your proverbs, but no matter soon enough I will be feasting upon your soul, then we shall see who is hammered down !” The hollow strikes in a fury of vicious attacks, blinded by his anger. Cleft easily blocks and dodges all of the strikes then retreats several yards back. “Well now I know how to push his buttons as well as his attack pattern. If he truly were a smart creature he would know not to reveal such vital aspects of his profile, especially in the middle of a battle.” thought Cleft. Cleft then proceeded to release his zanpaktou into it’s shikai state. “Perish in the flames, Nenshou Kontan !!” The hollow watched in amazement as the blade the soul reaper was holding slowly changed for the deep black to a blazing red that almost burned the eyes to look at. “Now let us see who shall win this battle” Cleft leapt high into the air and shouted “HELL FIRE “RING”!!”, a mass of flames appeared around Cleft and shot out in three hundred and sixty degrees. The serpent hollow knew he was defeated, he had misjudged the power of the shinigami , so he just stood there and took the blaze head on. Cleft walked over to the hollow in order to banish it from this world as it spoke to him. “Why…..do you…..care for these people that I attacked..? “ “That is just it, I don’t.” said Cleft in a very hardened tone. “Then why risk your life for them ?” Cleft looked at the Hollow and said softly, “Because it’s my job.” Cleft then drove his blade into the creature’s mask. As the monster dissolved into the underworld Cleft thought to himself, “Because scum like you don’t deserve to be among the living anymore.”
