Personality: Yoshitoshi has a calm and positive personality about him. He's always smiling no matter the situation unless it was to be rude or if he's really ticked off. Socially, he's a very talkative person but never crosses the line when necessary such as talking to a superior, he tries to befriend everyone he encounters, even the enemy. He distinguishes himself above others by using his intelligence and by taking initiative during fights, he takes pride in his ability to act under pressure. He shows promise when given a role of leadership but does very enjoy it for he prefers a lax lifestyle. Yoshitoshi was never one kill during battle, he was always reluctant when it came to killing other's for he is a very empathetic person, but over the years, Nagamitsu has understood his role as a shinigami and he must kill for the greater good. During battle, he's not a very reliable person for he acts according to his own will and judges whether the orders given to him are for the greater good, or not.

History/Background: Minamoto no Yoshitoshi was the second son of Minamoto no Yorihiro during the Hogen Rebellion. He was born on August 15, 1156. He was brought up by his mother and idolized his older brother Minamoto no Yoshinari and father for their bravery and great sense of honor. Yoshitoshi's father and brother both fought during the Hogen Rebellion and was never home so he spent much of his time alone praticing kenjutsu, kendo, aikido and writing haiku's.

One day, both his father and brother came home victorious from battle against the Taria clan but only had returned home to stay for the night for the battle, for tomorrow was to be the turning point of the rebellion, if the Minamoto won, then the Taira clan would be no more, but then was to be the exact opposite if the Taira won. That night, when they finished dinner and his mother and father had gone to bed, his brother sat Yoshitoshi down and told him about his odd feeling about how he would not return after the battle tomorrow, Yoshitoshi did not entirely understand his brother and thought he was joking around, Yoshinari tried to tell explain his thoughts to his younger brother but to no avail. He then gave up and sent Yoshitoshi to sleep.

The next day, during the afternoon, he had learned that the Taira had won and they had killed almost all of the Minamoto's forces in that battle. Yoshitoshi held back tears when he and his mother recieved the news that his father and brother had died. That night, Yoshitoshi found his brother's wakizashi with small elegant piece of paper wrapped aroung it. He controlled his sadness and unrolled it form the sword. He then realized it was his brother's death poem. "Moonlight is no more, So the stars will take over, And shine a new light." He did not understand it at first but after spending a whole night thinking about it, he finally realized that his brother wanted him to avenge his death by killing the head of the Taira clan. Just then he heard a scream coming from his mother's room, he quickly ran to his mother's side and tried to find out what was happening, the Taira had attacked the village, and all the able-bodied men of the village had already died in battle so no one was able to defend the village. His mother told him to escape and handed him a sack of food and supplies. Yoshitoshi refused to leave without his mother but when he heard the Taira climb the footsteps of their home, his mother shoved him out the back door and grabbed her naginata. He hid under the house and look up through a crack in the floor. He saw his mother spill the blood of two Taira soldiers before she was stabbed in the abdomen by a Taira captain, she fell to the floor covering the crack which Yoshitoshi was looking through. He tried to scream but could not make a sound. For the rest of the night, he stayed there under his house until the Taira soldiers had left. His face was covered with his mother's blood as it had leaked through the crack. He busied himself by burying all the bodies of the Minamoto and with his brother's sword in his hand and his supplies in the other, left the village and went into exile on Mount Kurama.

For 11 years, he praticed his martial arts skills and swordsmanship not resting till he was content with his performance for that particular day, for 11 years, he took cold showers in the pond and praticed till night, for 11 years, he went around the mountain hunting for animals and picking edible plants, for 11 years, he slept on on the cold hard ground. When the time came, at the age of 16, he embarked on his journey to the Taira castle. When he reached the castle, with his brother's wakizashi in hand scaled the rough surface of the stronghold. He managed to reach the armory and took a elegant and katana and left. He snuck throughout the castle, picking off guards until he reached Taira no Kiyomori's room. He carefully opened the door and stepped inside. The room was dim when he entered, he snuck towards the bed and saw Kiyomori sleeping, when he was about to stab him through the heart, Kiyomori leapted off the bed and lunged at Yoshitoshi with his sword, it took Yoshitoshi to realize, it was not Kiyomori, it was his bodyguard. He parried the attack with ease as he backflipped to the center of the room, it was then when the lights became bright in the room and he saw Kiyomori enter his room clapping with 20 Taira soldiers. "Well done young Minamoto, you have gone so far but I'm afraid this is the end for you." Yoshitoshi scoweled, knowing he was outnumbered and he would not win this skirmish, he kneeled on the floor and told Kiyomori "this is not the end, I will be back" with that, he stabbed himself in the left side of his abdomen with his brother's wakizashi and commited seppuku.

After he died, he showed much resistance and refused to leave the world for the had not finished his mission, he decided to enter the soul society and become a shinigami. With that, when the time came for Kiyomori to die, Yoshitoshi entered Kiyomori's room and made him die of sickness, with that, he had finished his mission, and continued to work for the soul society.
