| Shinigami Registration Name: Shiranai Ryokousha
Rank: Make him a strong Seated if the Onmitsukido HAS Seats.
Age: 427, but appears 22
Appearance: Ah, now for the tricky part. You see, there's been some contention on what he actually looks like these days. Several discussions among Shinigami have crept up and there is a betting pool on Shiranai's actual attributes as a person. Nevertheless, here are his actual specs... Standing upright, he is 5-foot-12-and-3-quarters in height and apparently light-skinned. Limber and athletic, Shiranai would almost appear to be double-jointed and highly-agilty. It is not known exactly how fast he can run because people do not SEE him run. They see him vanish and then a retreating dust-trail some distance away.
Those who have actually seen his face would consider him a bit handsome, and would say that he held the visage of someone with a great deal of patience. That would be normally, if it were still the case. In any case, he is a man of auburn-brown hair which is both straight and styled back, reaching the top of his neck. His eyes are brown like his hair, only slightly darker. In times when he'd been seen, many would say that his eyes were very calm. That's...probably not the case now. Aside from this, there are a few minor scars in places on his body where the evidence of some fight a long time ago still remains.
The thing is...Shiranai has not shown his face, or indeed most of any other part of himself, for a long time. He has, instead, embraced the call of the uniform in which he earned, which is that of an Onmitsukido member. Thus, he is seen entirely in black alot of the times. Black pants, black shirt, black undershirt, black shoes, and especially the black mask. You can't even see his eyes because he's taken to wearing sunglasses as well! (My avatar is pretty much the statement of what people see of Shiranai these days. The signature, however, is NOT Shiranai. That's Hank.) About the only thing showing is some of his face and his hands.
So, he is a ninja.
Gender: Male
Personality: Layered, and chaotic. Those are the two best words used to describe his mental state as of right now. Let's start at the top and peel our way down. On the outer-most layer of Shiranai's psyche, he is as he appears...which is that of a ninja. Stealth, professionalism, cunning instinct. He fulfills his duty to the Onmitsukido and sets an example for the proper attitude when on a mission. Embedded in this is the belief that he's doing right, and some good. Directly below that, it's a melange of foolish and absurd behavior which offsets his on-duty actions. Perhaps a bit like Dan McNinja or ANY McNinja or just plain ODD, Shiranai demonstrates an attention to strange antics in a manner not unlike an Obsessive-Compulsive. Exactly how OCD he might actually be is up for debate.
While it's uncertain as to whether his bizarre attitude is due to wanting not to be estranged from others be being part of the Onmitsukido or because he simply can't help it, there is still more to take from Shiranai's nature. For instance, the fact that he will not show his face in public. Behind the ninja attitude or the funny business, there is the simple fact that he will not show himself. And why? Because he wishes to dehumanize himself? No. Simply a personal shame which no person can attest to or explain to others. Some members of the Onmitsukido would be able to say what led to this, but not why. That's a story that Shiranai locks away, even from himself. So, perhaps he just doesn't like who he is, and covers it up because of that. And why? Well, read his history. It's all there.
Division: Onmitsukido --------------------
Hair Color: Brown
Likes: New equipment, comedies, Stealth!
Dislikes: Murderers, sociopaths, anyone getting away with things unpunished.
Crushes: Well, it's hard to say at this juncture. He had a crush once, but it didn't work out very well. Suffice to say, Shiranai respects strength of will, intelligence, and great perception in a person. --------------------
Specialties: Meditation/Relaxing, making tea, steaming/grilling fish, complicated exercises, and stealth-eating (again, like Dan McNinja).
History: Let us begin from the beginning. (Where else?)
It is ironic, but in life he was in the service of a feudal lord as a samurai. Decent in his swordsmanship, never too boastful or loud about his abilities. Bit of the quiet and reserved type, in fact. It was his way and thus he protected and defended quite admirably. Bribes were an insult. Did everyone really think money was the solution to all? He accepted rewards for his work, but dereliction of duty for a paid sum was sick. There are some who cannot be corrupted so easily, who believe in an act of good faith even if those who lead him do not. Someone has to be the strong link in the chain. If others would not, then he would, and he had turned his blade against those who would not take that seriously. Normally a quiet person, but there was a fierce resolve, and short patience for those who acted stupidly.
Men died in foolish endeavors where the risk outweighed the payoff, and no payoff was great enough to entice him to do the wrong thing. Sadly, there are times when the right thing IS the wrong choice. Backing the lord of the land is right, but it makes for trouble if someone is overthrowing him. It puts you on a death-list and that is the end of that. And unfortunately, because he was quite the swordsman, no one would step forward in combat. Arrows and slow poisons were his end, on a prepared moment while he was making his rounds. Death came too soon. He was in the prime of his life! But it was over, and there was a man in black clothing nearby. It was explained to him what would follow, that he would be delivered into Soul Society, and then he would be on his way. So it was said, and so it was done. And now...he found himself at Rukongai in Soul Society, a strange new life unrolling before him.
This is the tale of Shiranai Ryokousha, a man who normally does not stand out unless he needs to. Indeed, he faded quite well into the background of Rukongai as things were explained to him and he acclimated himself to the ways of Soul Society. Many of this did not quite make sense at first, especially remarks of reiatsu and kido. This much seemed important because he was apparently gifted in some ways. It was discovered that his prowess with a sword or whatever weapon had been magnified and he seemed very quick and precise in his motions. The people he lived with swore that this was a sign of some growing potential. Alright, but what to do with it? And they answered, "What else? Join the Shinigami. Only, try not to be uptight when you get there.". Fair enough, though it had to be said that he didn't have any notions of his acceptance. Apparently, the Shinigami were quite powerful. Even the one who had sent him here - a minor rank in an army of thousands - would send him to his maker that much quicker...right?
It turns out that this was...not entirely the case. Life as a warrior taught him skill, time in the service of a lord showed him discipline, and dying - regrettably - unlocked the reiatsu in question. Had he lived longer, a potential for spiritual powers might have developed in him. Still, these were the facts and that was the fate that had been laid out for him. Shiranai was, after some evaluation, accepted into the Soul Academy for study and training. Rigorous work! How was he a student again? He could not make himself feel imposed by these men who were older, yet looked as young or younger than he was? It was almost ridiculous, but he kept his respect. He just wouldn't allow himself to be pushed around. No one would scare him into submission. Along the way, he made a few friends among his group. Two of them become very close friends indeed, part of his 'study group', in fact. Rena and Hayato, his greatest friends...and his greatest tragedy.
He opened up to them more than others, even though he was the reserved and quiet one. But when you have Rena - the generous one - and Hayato - the laughing one - you can't help but ease up and enjoy yourself. Time passed like water flowing down a hill. Soul Society did not recognize time, and soon they were trained harder and harder, even taken to some training missions to deal with actual Hollows. To see these creatures... They were like the Oni of legend, and yet...they said these things were people once. Well, saying they were people made it easier for Shiranai. He had taken human lives IN life. If the demons were merely humans in twisted bodies, then they must be released from the abhorrence! That resolve earned him quite a few points. He worked well in a team, of course. He with his closest friends. It was like it was meant to be...
However, there was a problem. Although he did not know it, the seed of jealousy had been planted. Deep inside Hayato, a spark of irritation had been lit, and it was growing. You see, not only were he and Shiranai entertaining a sort of rivalry, but there was something else that was driving a wedge into things, turning competition into anger. The oldest wedge of all which causes men to lose their minds: Love. Both of them were fond of Rena, though neither of them had overtly shown it. Shiranai was uncertain about the right time to approach it and Hayato had a time picked out, which was when his Zanpakuto was ready to release. He wanted to make an occasion of it. But the problem was...he noticed that Rena was growing attracted to HIM, to Shiranai. She didn't say it either, but the signs were there. He didn't want that.
So, against orders, he decided to train in secret, at a cave located way outside any of the city. He wanted it badly enough. And when he was ready, he would ask Rena out here - for all three of them had gathered in this cave before - to show her. Shiranai was not aware of any of this. There were signs that something was up with Hayato, but he never guessed it would happen this way... One night, he noticed that both of them were gone, and he thought he heard Rena get up earlier. Checking on him, perhaps? If one of your friends was missing, you'd go to find him, right? That was Rena, and Shiranai had to follow suit, because it'd been a while waiting. Following her reiatsu, he arrived at the cave to find...blood. Blood on the walls, on the floor, and on Hayato...who was grinning in an unstable way. It was Rena's blood.
She lay on the ground, badly wounded and barely conscious. Hayato stood over her, looking decidedly out of control and holding a weapon he'd never seen before. It was a thicker sort of blade which seemed to have a hollow middle with the end of a blade jutting out of it. Upon questioning, Hayato explained that he had been training with his Zanpakuto in secret so that he could show her its power. The fact that there were there spikes sticking out of parts of the wall at odd angles demonstrated that he had, in fact, done this. The rest fell into place. Rena didn't approve, Hayato snapped, and he attacked her in a wild rage. Rena, who hadn't learned to release her blade yet, didn't stand a chance. Neither would he if...oh shit. That look in his eye said it all. He was a dead man. Well...deader man.
Hayato's Zanpakuto launched blade projectiles which stabbed into things and sprouted metal spikes on impact. This would allow him to turn a man into a pin cushion if not careful. However, he obviously hadn't mastered it, for his aim was off. Drawing his own blade, the two of them began to fight, even though he didn't want it. It brought back some terrible memories of his time living and he did not want to think of those days anymore. The two of them managed to wound each other lightly in a half a minute's time, but it was clear that Hayato was gaining ground, so to speak. He was released. He had the advantage and the power. All that was lacking was the skill, which kept Shiranai alive. But he was feeling desperate, and Hayato's mind was unraveling further with every second of this fight.
Finally, it came to a harsh kick into a wall and a blade to his throat. He was going to die...again. And all he had to take with him to wherever he was would end up was Hayato laughing at him cruelly. That was when he heard it. A voice, saying one thing: "Pick me up and finish him." Everyone's encounter with the spirit of their Zanpakuto is different. Shiranai's spoke only when it was necessary, when he needed it. It was telling him that now was the time. The next thing Hayato knew, his blade was parried and Shiranai stood up. His spoke his Zanpakuto's name and...the blade vanished! Vanished? More like transformed and launched out. Hayato stared at the hilt, confused, and then was dimly aware of some motion...right before a group of lightning-quick projectiles punched through his body from all sides. His body was broken, and the ball bearing-like metal spheres of Shiranai's release returned to the hilt before returning it to a normal blade.
That was when he became aware...of movement, so swift that he couldn't follow it in his condition. Someone threw his face into the ground and held him there and he saw numerous black-clad figures. The Onmitsukido... They got wind of this... It was possible for a single Zanpakuto release to go unnoticed way out here, but two? Someone twigged that something was wrong and a number of the members had gone hunting. They found him killing someone with a Zanpakuto and a badly wounded Soul Academy student. What would YOU think of it? However, Rena shouted out then, telling them to stop. With her final breath, she proclaimed his innocence. Shiranai was let up, though now he felt shattered inside. Why did this happen? Why couldn't he prevent it? Something like this should never have been allowed... After putting the pieces together, one of the Onmitsukido apologized. Another one, in understanding of how he had handled this, made a suggestion. He believed that Shiranai should strive to join them, to do all they can to prevent such things in the future.
He took this idea at heart. It was something to focus on. Redoubling his efforts with no distractions, he forged ahead into the practice. Finally, he applied his training and education into his desired role, and stated that he would accept no less because they damn well knew he would not serve better anywhere else. It was agreed, and the old Shiranai Ryokousha faded from existence. He was replaced by...what you could call a different being, a changed man. Obviously the same person, and yet...not. He whole-heartedly threw himself into the uniform for his discipline, but acted out in a most bizarre fashion when the desire arose. In a way, Shiranai wanted to erase his normal self from existence, and yet stand out. So, he was constantly clad in the ninja gear and such, and yet a strange and amusing person to speak to. According to his mental evaluations, he wasn't actually crazy, so he couldn't be suspended from duty. This is the manner in which he carried himself to the present time, keeping his past farther away from his mind as he lived only in the moment and in service as needed.
Picture of Character: My avatar for his 'face'.
Sample Chapter: (Not for Elitehood. Merely to show the character in action.)
This did not happen overnight. They know this, and yet...how does a man go from being apparently the quiet sort to this? It was as though he'd inverted, in a sense. It was here, in a room reserved for mental examination, that Squad 4 evaluates all personnel according to selection and rotation. However...
"Let's see... Next patient is...oh no. Not him. Alright... Please send in Shiranai Ryokousha!"
The examiner waited, and waited, and waited. Finally, as he was about to open the door, his assistant stuck her head in and said that he WAS here, but that he seemed to vanish all of a sudden when her back was turned. Okay, that was odd. Perhaps he was called away. No matter, they could always resched-
"You called?"
"Aaagh!"
Tall man in black, suddenly behind him with barely a trace of the Shun-Po he must've used to get there. The examiner tried to calm himself as he looked over the man's dossier. It had all his vital statistics, but someone had replaced the picture there originally with his current appearance, that being the masked visage standing before him, hands behind his back and looking for all the world like the scare he'd given him was okay.
"Please sit down, Ryokousha-san."
He did so, and as he was about to speak, the man in the ninja uniform did so first.
"Are you feeling alright?"
"What? Yes."
"Only you seem nervous."
"Well, I-"
"I'd be concerned about that if I were you. It's not condusive to such a stressful job."
"My job isn't stressful!"
"Please, don't shout. I'm only trying to help."
"I...er...wait, I should be asking you the questions."
He remained silent, awaiting the questions in mind. The examiner sat down himself.
"So, tell me... Are you feeling uncomfortable with your work in the Onmitsukido?"
"No, I'm alright. How about you?"
"I'm not in the Onmitsukido."
"I mean Squad 4, all those people insulting you for no reason. I mean, the outright nerve when you're the ones who stitch them back together."
"I know! They're so ignorant and they think they're all so tough! Some day, I'd like to rip the stitches right out of one and say 'Well, YOU fix it then!'."
"And how long have you had these feelings?"
"I dunno. A couple of years. Wait..."
He was asking him questions again. This was Shiranai's review and HE was asking HIM questions! And he had his pad and pen, writing things down! Quickly, he took those back and sat back down.
"Please allow me to conduct this review, Ryokousha-san."
"Very well."
"Now then...why do you wear those clothes?"
"It's the uniform."
"A bit custom, isn't it?"
"I'm a smart dresser."
"You wear it all the time. In fact, I'm told you have several pairs of the same thing so that you're not caught without one on laundry day!"
"Are you spying on me?"
"I did ask for a little observation, yes."
"Have you always felt the need to observe your 'patients' outside of your authority?"
"What?"
"I'm fairly certain that such observations need to be approved by at least one Captain, probably your own. Did you clear this with anyone?"
"Well, no. It seemed the right thing to do..."
"Don't let it happen again. Spying on the Onmitsukido while on duty is definitely an offense of some sort."
"But you weren't-"
He stood up, suddenly, stretching himself before relaxing.
"I'm sorry, but we're completely out of time. I can fit you in for next week."
"Umm..."
"Now, please... Do something about that nervous twitch, and no more comments about opening stitches, alright? We can't have that in the Seireitei. I'll see you later."
And with that, he just...walked out. The examiner sat there for a moment, wondering what the hell just happened. He did it again. He always came in here and avoided conversation about himself. And yet, his superiors kept marking hims as sane. Why? His file alluded to him having a hard time in the Soul Academy, but just what that was had been erased. Did they think he was cured? Did they believe he was never ill? What sort of sane man turns a conversation around like this? Either he WAS insane...or the act he was performing was brilliant.

| Template says sample required if applying for Elite. This is no Captain or Lieutenant. He's more along the lines of Rukia's position, or Ikkaku. | |

| I see, from what you asked I thought it was somewhere along the lines of lieutenant as such, you don't need one, now all you need is the okay of the 2nd. Btw, he is a demanding dude so I recommend making an Rp sample. | |

| Very well. I'll make one for that purpose. But it is along the lines of the character not to be in command.
EDIT: It is done. | |
