Lyon Raigen, I challenge you! [Lyon, in case it wasn't obvious]

((OOC: I will make it clear from the outset that this battle is conducted in open air, in an arena. Note also that it is almost dusk and the sun is low in the sky. ))

Suman stood, the air caressing his face. It moved his ponytail slightly as he breathed a sigh of relief; finally, he was going to have his shot. He was going to make an attempt to become captain. But there was only one way Suman could think of in his Samurai mind; a battle. Battles proved one's worth, one's brains. Suman would show them all just how worthy of a captain he was worthy of being.

Ryukurai stood under his palm, its sheath glistening in the sun behind Suman. Yes, a worthy opponent to challenge him at last. The battle would be spoken of for generations! Ryukurai admired his master's desire for battle.

Finally, when Suman spoke, it was clear from his tone that his intentions are strictly honourable. His eyes burned with the desire he'd had since he was a fledgling in the Shinigami Academy. And now, his dreams were so close to realisation...of course, he was going to throw everything he had at this opponent. Otherwise, there would be no respite from his consciousness.

"Raigen-taichou...for decades I have struggled, for a millennium I have worked on my skills. However, I do not wish to cause harm this day. I give you the option to opt out, sir. Hand me your haori and we shall drink tea tonight, laughing about how seriously we took this.

"However...If we must fight, know that I shall hold no quarter. Understand that when we battle, I swing my sword with the intention to kill." Suman's pupils were dilated to the extreme, the desire to win making him look slightly demented.

Then, he turned around and withdrew his sword, levelling his blade to point.

"What say you, captain of the Gotei 13?" Suman asked gravely, preparing zanshin to do battle. Deep in his heart of hearts, Suman knew that the young Captain would never surrender his position to the likes of him. But Suman's skills with the blade were hardly lacking and his spiritual power was on par with that of a captain. If he could not become a captain today, then at least he would be noticed as a candidate and not just some stupid little lacky of Hakura's.

"No blood need be shed. Let us lay down our arms and resolve this like gentlemen." Suman smiled, his eyes softening to happiness and acceptance once more.
