Personality: Reserved and vicious. Ukiyo is a cold hearted killer as described by many. Being apathetic to his subordinates and equals alike. Although he won't hesitate to voice out his opinions if something were to contradict his plans, whatever the case, he'll always stay in the back to keep quiet, often being sneaky and sly.
Although he may seem to have ulterior motives, he always sees the greater picture for what they are. His intelligence allows him to deduct things and reveal them for what they truly represent. If he encounters an enemy, he has no reason to give them mercy unless they have information, but that is only a temporary mercy for the ruthless action to come called death. For Ukiyo doesn't believe that there should be prisoners, they are an inconvenience to Seireitei to keep, therefore, if they have no value, they should be eliminated.
Appearance: In appearance's sakes, Ukiyo has been described as handsome through and through despite his vicious undertone. His complexion is Mediterranean olive, his eyes saphire, his build being muscular yet slim. Hair blonde and ruffled. Facial hair absent in every way. He in every way is often seen as a savage Captain, his appearance befitting that of a berserker yet it can change at in instant, being flexible in just about every way. His rather youthful appearance should be kept as a note it is all due to his special Reiatsu that he has retained his appearance akin to that when he was at the age of 300 or so.
His Shinigami uniform is clean, spotless, and pretty standard black like all of them. It is complimented by a long sleeve Captain's Haori to indicate experience from his lengthy career along with his seniority. From his explanation, Kagai also notes that the long Haori can be quite "breezy" from his words. As such, he finds himself comfortable wearing it.
History/Background: Much of Ukiyo's initial history is unknown, nothing is known of his pastlife, his childhood, and certainly not his time spent in Rokungai. It was known by his close admirers that he always looked up to a Shinigami close to him, the one who has moved the unmovable mountain known as Seireitei through his very force alone, that inspiration motivated him to join the Academy in order to become stronger than that Arrancar ever was. It was there he passed particularly easily, having had mastered all four forms of combat already within the short time given to him, memorized the highest Kidou, and even his flash steps are on par with that of the 2nd Division Captain.
It was those masteries that allowed Ukiyo to snag a spot within the 3rd Division Lieutenant quite easily. All he had to do was challenge the previous Lieutenant and slay him in combat. It was mostly a one sided battle that was all worked on his favour. He has killed the poor Vice Captain with his finger alone, without even unsheathing his Zanpakuto, proving to everyone that he is perhaps of Captain caliber, even higher than that. His monstrous Reiatsu having scared the Shinigami Captain of 3rd Division, making her suspicious of him, loathe him.
The initial reason why he joined the 3rd Division was simple, he already was the best in most fields, he wanted to go into even more self-improvements when it came to intelligence gathering, that is the only field he wanted to improve on, and in order to do it, he would have to go to the gentle division of the 3rd. He made it a habit to polish up his combat skills by simply beating the 11th Division members that have come to attack, other ways involved him taking messages out of Hell butterflies.
His climax reached at it's zenith when he has finally mastered intelligence gathering, it was where he slaughtered the 3rd Division Captain in a challenge, and taking her spot right off the hook, earning animosity between himself and his division, for the question arised "How could a man like that kill a gentle soul of a Captain?" It has gone for a time long enough before they started to respect the man due to his finesse in healing, even the Captain couldn't have reached his level. He was basically perfection taking in the form of a man, perhaps the first prodigy, becoming the 3rd Division Captain at the mere age of 359.
During those time as Captain, he perfected making leakless information networks, and setting up an 'internet' system in Seireitei. Other innovations he has made includes making surveillance Hell butterflies. All were parts of his success that has made him quite a big name to be spoken around in Seireitei. All working in his favour... but he couldn't be satisfied, not with these meagre accomplishments. Not with just this mundane innovations that he puts up, he wants more than this, something bigger. The bigger picture of a true reward, not of personal satisfaction, but of an entirely bigger reward represented through materialism and power. Power is what he desires, power is what he will get.
