Personality:
To begin with, outwardly Nana will always appear to be a cheerful little carefree surgeon whom gets a patient to smile even when they're going into surgery. She has a love for making people smile and for that reason she seemed to have gained popularity among patients even with simple ailments such as a minor facial contusion or a cut that needed to be stitched. Either way Nana will always go an extra mile to get a person to smile while they're under her care. The surgeon is also an extremely caring woman..
Caring may be an understatement, but she has a motherly type of aura around her, and anyone who made a friend of the girl would know that. Because of not only that but a good set of listening ears, shes a woman that people talk to about all kinds of problems and she helps them with no expectation of a return favor. She listens and doesn't preach to people, which makes her unique to many of the supposed "Psychologists". Nana takes in the information and seems to process it in a way that makes a problem that seems to be out of hand, manageable. But if it ever came down to it shed also give someone who truly needed it, her entire paycheck. A trait of hers that sets her apart from most people is that she seems to be totally self reliant, which is quite true. Nana makes sure people don't see her when shes weak, when shes worn out, when she actually would need someone around.
However despite being a quite kind and giving woman, Nana has a side to her that's quite faulty. Her loyalty when gained meant if you left soul society she would follow you faithfully and be there for you in the human world where the Shinigami have no place. Nanami is however a woman that seems to oppose most of soul societies philosophies, but she could not do anything about it even if she wanted, a girl like is would be far to weak to stand up to a soutaichou. Not to mention, far to meek to do that. Her other fault is her naive look on the world and yet somehow with the innocence that she shows in a childlike way, it reveals the corruption and disgusting side of the world both human and shinigami that she had seen through her life.
However Nana is a different person if shes pulled out of her element in the fourth division. When outside her division she becomes jumpy and highly nervous, on many occasions she has nearly injured herself with stupid actions that come from a constant state of paranoia. In once instance when a captain had asked her where she was going, she had passed out right in front of the taichou, therefore around most people when they're not patients, shes just an extremely nervous person that needs to learn that she wont get beaten if she goes outside every once in a while. Now onto a more odd subject to talk about, Nana doesn't seem to allow herself to get to know someone to well so that she gets emotionally attached, she does this possibly out of fear, maybe out of the fact that if she got attached to someone and they got hurt and she didn't have the ability to save them, she'd never forgive herself. So even if you gain Nana as a friend, she quite frankly doesn't have that much of an emotional attachment to you.

History:
A small Child born into a world that hated different people. Nana was a reject as a child. Her parents far to busy getting their fix with some form of drug, mostly cocaine, young Nana grew up in a place where she shouldnt have. Nana should have run as a child, but what is a toddler that can barely walk going to do? The toddler Nana was a girl that was treated with love as long as her parents had their fix of cocaine, if they didn't the toddler was often hit so she'd learn to e quiet if she began to cry. Nana had years go by and she was a small child. If you asked her what her first memory of life was, it would be this image. Her parents took her outside for the first time and the only thing she saw were the dark and dreary, scum covered buildings in which people like her and her family lived. That was her first memory of life, and so it was here on these very cracked sidewalks, the road full of potholes that she grew up, the place where she learned all of life's lessons and then some.
As a child she was bound to make friends, at some point, and that she did. She had few friends, people in this ruined neighborhood where she lived seemed to reject her existence, as if her being born was not something they wanted. But Nana existed with her first friend, another girl by the name Ayame. Ayame helped her when she needed to get help, and it seemed like shed be a good person to stay friends with for the rest of her life. However as the girl aged into a teenager, she began to take after her parents, drugs seemed to begin to rule her life, she worked a minimum wage job just so she could get ahold of what she wanted..

Well it was soon she began to try other things she got ahold of every drug she could manage, and life went down the drain from there. It finally hit her somehow after she came down from her last high that she was doing wrong things and had ruined her life, and with the lethal mix of depressant alcohol and sleeping pills she fell asleep for the last time, and passed on to the next world.. Which really was wandering with just a chain that was eroding away on her chest. Thats when she ran into a Shinigami... fear finally crept into the soul of Nana and she was frozen there with fear. However as the figure approached she gave her a warm and almost caring smile as she knelt to the teenager's level. Having died at the age of sixteen she looked far younger than this shinigami. However the shinigami explained what would happen and she readily agreed to cross over.
When she did cross over, all she knew was her name, and only her nickname at that. Nana, was what she called herself. As she looked around though, she was on the shore of a small river, and the sun had begun to set. With a contented enough smile she fell asleep and wondered what would be in store for her here. When she awoke the next morning however, she was wracked by a terrible pain in her stomach. Obviously immediately thinking shed be hungry, Nana set off to get some food, which well was given to her by a man whom seemed detached from the crowd but helped her because he said she had "the gift". Curiosity got the best of Nana as she conversed with this stranger about this "gift" before a rather violent fight broke out. The man going into stop the fight ended up badly injured... Nana in a panic ran about the village grabbing scraps of cloth and a bucket of water before returning to the man to tend to the wounds.
The man thanked her for the favor as she finished tending to him, and from that day forward she called this man her father. She would help take care of her new family by getting food and help tending to the sick when they got sick until she was deemed old enough to go out on her own. By the age where she appeared to be seventeen she had left the house and found a place of her own, but visited the square every day for a piece of bread at the price of whatever shiny valueables she could find. However one fateful day another fight erupted and as the dust finally settled it showed her father once more injured. But this time it was a more mortal injury. Wracked with grief and anger the girl used what her father called "the gift" for the first time and healed her father. However from that day on she was rejected by her community and so she joined the ranks of the shinigami...
Sample Chapter:
A little girl was running haphazardly through the many corridors of Seireitei obviously quite flustered or just extremely afraid of something. She ran quickly, obviously trying to get somewhere and get there fast, life around Nana was interesting to say the least, or well only when she dared stray outside the fourth division. The girl was running Medication to the thirteenth division taichou Ukitake Jyuushiro. It seemed that her own Taichou Unohana, wanted to cure the third seat of her chronic taichou-phobia and so she unwillingly agreed to go run the medication to the thirteenth. However running around seireitei this way and having to deal with all kinds of meaner and much more dangerous shinigami than her peaceable subordinates in the fourth, was another thing she had yet to deal with. Nanami ran away and took so many detours around divisions like the eleventh because of the fact that of all divisions, the eleventh was the last one she wanted to be in. She really didn't care where she was at that very moment, but she was quite nervous as she stopped for a moment to catch her breath.
"Really? Smoking?"
She heard a voice up a head, quite obviously a male voice and she tensed up, but she also felt an immense reiatsu, quite easily being that of someone in the ranks of the Shinigami Captains. "U-Uh-oh.." she whispered hoarsely to herself, as she drew in another breath and then walked, quite slowly as if trying to see if there was a way around the two people. She looked at the courtyard ahead and noted that she could possibly easily avoid them if she took a route around the court yard.. and so thats what she aimed to do. Her steps slow and unsure, as if she was an animal sensing there could be a trap, she stepped. Fortunately for Nana, she was quite easily one of the most quiet walkers you'd ever come across. Walking on the cobblestone path she didn't even make a noise, so walking in the courtyard silently was quite easy. However distracted by the thoughts in her mind the poor Girl didnt seem to notice she walked into the bench that the taichou had been sitting on and flipped over it, landing quite uncomfortably on her back. Thankfully she caught the medicine. "G-Gomenasai" the girl apologized in a rather meek voice.. Despite the things that stood against the Goteijuusantai, and the amount of work that needed to be done, Seireitei was a rather boring place. It seemed like it only got that way around the time of a crisis. War didn't always bring excitement to the table, at least not with Genryuusai Shigekuni Yamamoto as the head of all that live in Soul Society. He preferred extremely amicable strategies that forced even the most heedless of Shinigami into the backseat until the opposing forces stood mere feet ahead of them. These were one of the times the gender indefinite fukutaichou of the third nonchalantly roamed the pampered streets of the Court of Pure Souls, looking for nothing but trouble to dig his hands into.
Finishing up work quickly, as he always did, he began his plod around the third division. Walking with his spiritual pressure so low that only the most experienced of Shinigami could tell he was there without visually seeing him, he casually made his way around corners, startling idle groups of recruits and passer-by's with his sudden appearance. He wasn't gruesome-looking or anything, it's just that when they saw the badge around his left arm symbolizing second-in-command of the third division, they immediately knew that was 'Kagurazaka Shimesu.' They didn't know what he was. They classified him as a female, but they heard, what they believed to be rumors, that he was truly a male. They didn't want to accidentally strike a nerve by asking the truth, so their minds scurried with nervous thoughts. They didn't know what to feel when they saw him. Should they like or dislike; accept or shun? They just cast the thought aside without giving an answer whenever he wasn't around, but when he was, they had no choice but to deal with the torture it gave their minds.
Shortly into his walk, he came across a weak-looking girl, frozen in her tracks, staring in fear of something or someone. He stopped along with her, only given a few moments to examine her before going on the move again. The next step he was seen taking was one behind the pink-haired woman. His steps were even and in sync with hers', even the gold bracelets he wore remained silent as he moved. He followed her all the way up to his taichou and Remy before deciding to stir things up a bit. The woman didn't just run into the bench because her mind was too focused on thoughts. She was nudged from behind, something she couldn't notice because of the fact. Shimesu grinned mischievously as he watched the outcome, waiting until the woman apologized to Revy before making his presence known. "Sorry," he began in his passive, feminine tone, "didn't mean to bump you that hard." He didn't mean any harm. The bright glow of his expression told that much. It's just when he gets around someone so cautious, so frail, he felt the sudden urge to break them.
